Maths: The new Maths GCSE is going to be more demanding than previously, with the introduction of new topics as well as more focus on problem solving and content that can be applied to ‘real world’ situations, such as business and finance. Schools are likely to add more maths classes to students’ timetables, beginning from September 2015, to cover the new course material.

English: There are no set texts in English Language – only in English Literature, that will no longer be compulsory from September 2015, but will include the study of a Shakespearean play, Victorian novel and one pre-1914 British fictional text – but students will be encouraged to broaden their reading, in both fiction and non-fiction. The role of poetry will also be enlarged, and a greater proportion of marks will be given to correct spelling, punctuation and grammar.
