GCSEs (General Certificates in Secondary Education) are academic qualifications that students in the United Kingdom work towards, from the ages of fourteen until sixteen. They are equivalent to the tenth and eleventh grade of high schooling in Russia, Year 2 of lower secondary and Year 1 of higher secondary education in China and the freshman and sophomore years of American high school.

Compulsory subjects at GCSE are Maths, English and Science, whilst optional subjects include classical and modern foreign languages, arts and humanities subjects. A minimum of five GCSEs is typically required for university entry, however most UK schools will expect students to take between nine to eleven subjects. Angloslav supports young people in making suitable GCSE subject choices to ensure their future academic and professional success.

The right combination of subjects is not sufficient to guarantee students places at the best colleges and universities in the UK. Exceptional grades are also required. At Angloslav, we inspire students to set ambitious but achievable targets for their GCSE grades. With the help pf our world-class academic coaches we devise individualised study strategies and solutions to help students reach those targets.

Studying for the GCSEs is a significant period in students’ lives as it is when young people develop their skills in analysis, evaluation, research and cultural knowledge. It is also a time when students grow as independent learners, discovering through practice and revision of their subjects which learning styles suit them best and how to use them effectively.

Angloslav staff has excellent, up-to-date knowledge of the latest reforms in British education, including how they impact GCSE students and alter subject curriculums.

Angloslav also directs young people towards elite selective schools in the UK where they will find environments that nurture them both academically and socially. We help students and their families throughout the entry process, from sending in the initial application forms to making the final selection amongst various school choices.
